I know playoff expansion seems inevitable but why not 6 or 8 teams with a guarantee that all undefeated teams regardless of conference make it in? Why this monstrosity of a proposal? All this benefits is the SEC which will get 4-5 teams every year because of favoritism. I mean does the 11th and 12th teams who make it really benefit from getting defecated on every year? I have watched college football a lot and not once did I ever look at the 11th or 12th ranked team from the end of the conference championship week and think they deserved a shot at a national title or wouldn't get curbstomped by whoever they played
A 12-team playoff is a great idea the group of five conferences will become stronger recruiting will become better when they realize they have a chance to win a title without joining the big school
A 12 team playoff might be a little to much but it will certainly make winning the national title way less easier.
Next year, the also ran teams will demand a 16 team playoff with double elimination. All they want is to show why they are also ran teams.
He mentioned the Rose Bowl and their demands as if we were still in the 50's. 🤣😂🤣 The Grand Daddy of them all better get with the program and adjust.
Sounds great for the Power 5 conferences that will get 11 of the 12 spots. 👀 College Football needs proper realignment that includes some Group 5 programs. (Ex: The New PAC 10 would be Oregon State, UCLA, Washington, Boise State, USC, Stanford, California, San Diego State, Oregon, and Washington State) You play everybody in conference, makes geographical sense, and it's inclusive.
CFP: “You know we’re making a ton of money off this free labor?”NCAA: “Yea..”CFP “You know what would be even better?”University presidents: “Go on…”notre dame: “We came up with:...More games”SEC Conference President: “Brilliant!”CFP: “Of course we give ourselves a big raise!”College Presidents: “What about the student athletes?”CFP “Free meals and sociology classes they can take online!”Everyone: 😂😂😂
This is too many games, and too many neutral site games. The 4-team system is terrible and needs to change, but this is just exchanging one set of problems for another.
Question: Is there a concern that the extra games will cause players to burn out (physically) early? This is could potentially be 3 extra games per year for some players and in a 3 year college career that is 9 games. This could cut down on their NFL careers and thus have players making more "business" decisions earlier (ex., sitting out games/seasons).
If I was King of the World, this is what I would do!Eight major conferences with 2 divisions each. The first weekend in December, would be Conference Championship Day with the divisional winners playing ( thats 16 teams)New Years Day would have the 8 conference champions playing in the 4 traditional Bowl games. Two weeks later, the Semis with the 4 schools. Then the championship. No more polling as the goal is the win your division and then Conference. Sorry Notre Dame, join a conference.
@David Dolan : Seriously! Do you think the university presidents give a rats ass about a semester when $$millions can be brought into the school. If the university president you describe actually exists, I will send my kids to that school.
Won't happen. Last thing university president's want is football becoming a two semester sport.
What they have now is no more then a plus one.. why they call it a playoff is beyond me...
Double elimination! With a losers bracket,..until the national championship game ..and then the best two out of three for the finals..just like baseball and softball! You want no excuses?! More games?! More money!? Let's go,!
Stupid, 12 teams? what a joke all about making money. I can see maybe 8 but not 12. College football is not the NFL
They need to bc looking at the same 3 teams and substitute 1 that you know can’t win a game is getting g old and boring for a post season. The regular season is always good but you get let down in the post season with redundancy
Regular season sucks too for lots of reasons
A bunch of blowouts, then the final four, then Alabama wins.
This is the best thing to happen to college football since the separation of the FBS and FCS
Every change in college football has resulted in more domination from teams at the top. If you want to get to the top don’t worry as much about a broken system and more about your broken culture and talent in the locker room. Clemson’s rise is a prime example of how to do a program
If Alabama still dominate a 8 or 12 team play off y'all still be bitching ? It's all about stopping Alabama and Nick Saban ? Well he's lost 2 but he could have won 10 national championship now ?
Should be 8 with a limit of 2 from any conference. This proposed format will result in nothing but an SEC fest, probably 6 or more SEC teams each year. Don’t believe it? Just look at the Softball tournament. Every team in the SEC except one made the tournament. The rest of the country got the scraps. ESPN will make sure it’s packed in their favor.
What is wrong with these guys ? 4 was not enough and 12 is to many. 8 teams makes the most sense AND ITS OBVIOUS Jezzz
6 or 8 is fine.
@Albert Sancho Yup 4 is Bullshit and so is 12 BUT there arer ALWAYS 6 or 7 teams who deserve a shot
Yeah 8 the most
The playoffs are going to happen. The bowl games will simply be just included in playoff game sites.
12 is a good nmba...I believe we find a (TRUE) champion in this format...
Clown comment. This will change nothing.
Now did the NCAA not after Ohio State Played 14 games in 2002 set a limit to the # of games that each team can play a year. So now an entity outside of the NCAA says great lets play more games. you now will have the potential for more injurys, and let us throw the whole idea of the myth of CF players attending classes adding 1-3 weeks to the season. What's next an agreement with the NFL and CFL that all of CFB becomes a farm system? As much as I understand the money grubbing ethics of all bussinesses isn't the idea of college to train students for careers, for after their athletic careers end, or if their athletic careers do not pan out for them.
I favored 8 teams but I'm sure 12 will work. But do not shorten the season or conference championships In a few years 14 to 15 game seasons will seem commonplace
This is ridiculous. These people are going to destroy college football.
Absolutely. They want it to be like the NFL
who ever stays the Healthiest of Top 4 Teams is the team that is going to win it all now.
The team with the most depth will win, aka, Bama, Clemson, Ohio State.
They should just keep it how it is because the same top teams are always gonna make it to the playoffs
Needed very soon
The regular season now needs go 9 games 8 in conference one out of conference then play 10 game as conference championship game so if not top 4 seeds and 5 there 12 only play 4 more games a year this really bad ideal if done it start with take 12 teams say ok playing get into bowl games with top 4 seeds with a bye week the first round the losers go to the Cotton Bowl and the Peach Bowl what the highest seeds lost going to the cotton bowl and lower seeds going to peach bowl then in the second round the four teams that lose the High seeds going to the Orange Bowl lower seeds lose going to the Fiesta Bowl then on the third round the winners would go on to play in the Rose Bowl for the national title as the losers would go on to play in the Sugar Bowl but since we start this can't do 12 it make the regular season not really mean much you could end up with a national champion that lost two to three games or maybe even four games
Nick Saban will never miss a playoff again
@Mitchell and they will most likely will all lose to those teams
Dweese Thompson but now 8 other teams besides Ohio st, Clemson, Bama, and OU can all have a shot
@Stefan Snellgrove if they make those changes it be 100%
Heck’s it’s already highly unlikely for us to miss it even with the current system. We have made 6/7 playoffs and made the first 5 straight.
What I would like this might be long take 80 schools with your main rival as your travel partner IE Auburn- Alabama Pitt-WVa Miss-Miss St. etc create 8 conferences with 10 teams each for a 4 year period rotate conferences every 4 years An example (Using Auburn and Alabama as travel partners) Auburn Alabama FSU Miami Florida Georgia GTech BC Uconn Syracuse then next 4 year cycle Auburn Alabama Texas Texas A&m Oklahoma Pitt PSU WVA Notre Dame Memphis. as result you will would see fresh new match ups for a four year period. ie Iowa vs Texas or Clemson vs LSU etc then have a 12 or 16 team playoff with 8 conference champions and 3 or 7 at large bids with 1 school out of the 81-130 schools who was not apart of the 8 conferences. This would be fresh new and exciting. Its time to get rid of the Bowl games or pick certain bowl games as playoff sites. Start the playoffs 2nd weekend of December and end the 2 week of January.
The Rose doesn’t demand anything.... that’s bs. The Rose Bowl wasn’t even played in the Rose Bowl last year so don’t give me that nonsense
Dumb, we will see 8-4 teams with a weaker schedule show up between 5 and 12 and 13 still crying about not getting in. Everyone wants a trophy for something.
BAMA?CLEM/LSU still gona win every year on repeat.........sadly.
EXPAND DA PLAYOFFS .. AND .. PAY DA PLAYERS .. IT'S LONG OVERDUE ..
Finally I can get into college football
finally! ball state can make the playoffs
Bet the "House" ! Dare you!!😁
Why not expand to 24? Then 32 and then 64?
Expand to as many as you want , we'll still win it in the end . RTR
Oh hush 🤫
*People will be kicking themselves in few weeks if they miss the opportunity to buy and invest in Bitcoin as it's retracing....BE WISE*
Yes I can believe that, I got victory with him. I was so sad after receiving the first pay knowing I invested so low with fear😓😫
I met Mr Jamie last year for the first time at a conference in Manchester, I invested $25,000 and traded in one month making close to $143,670
@Xander Moe I've got 12th winning thanks to Jamie Grayson he's really the best, I've made £16,400 in 18 days working with him
I'm from the UK 🇬🇧 I and my colleagues gave him a try and it has been good returns of our investment, Thanks Expert Jamie Grayson
I'm definitely placing my trade with Expert Jamie ASAP
This is going to be the end of college football as we know. The apocalypse has begun. College football is doomed
@Brian those undefeated teams usually have week schedule compared to undefeated or 1 loss power 5 team
Right cuz the season totally matters when undefeated teams don’t make the playoffs..... College football is the only sport on the planet with this characteristic. That doesn’t make it unique that just makes it dumb
Hell no you’re crazy. The regular season needs to change too. People like you are holding college football back
And thus, the greatest regular season of any sport in America is killed... Take a look at the board above: 2 three loss teams get in, and four teams that have zero chance to win the championship. Zero. Unless you're being dishonest with yourself. FOUR SEC teams get in, and absolutely nothing will change - the same big guys will be winning it all in the end. All in the name of fairness and equality. Cest la vie, regular season. It was great while it lasted...
Regular season is meaningless when half the teams are eliminated before opening kickoff.
How does the regular season matter if undefeated teams don’t make the playoffs....
Shut the hell up. The regular season needs to change big time. All these bs schools playing weak non cons. Eff have only 5 you want to watch all year when there could be 30
lets be real, college football has been trash for quite some time. the last GREAT season was 2014 and the last okay season was 2017.
We are witnessing, in real time, the implosion of the most unique and beautifully quirky sport in American athletics
Unique and quirky doesn't mean good. The reason college football's system is unique is because no one else in the world is dumb enough to have a backwards system like this.
Agreed. We've reduced everything in the college game to a few games at the end of the year. It may take a couple years to adjust, as Josh said, but guaranteed - very soon - viewership and interest in the weekly Saturday regular season games will just drop to nothing - especially non conference matchups. I mean who cares if Penn St beats Auburn or vice versa? It's one game and out of conference. Meh.
@Jeremy Gilbert If you think the CFP is screwing the G5, you did not watch the BCS..... Yes Cincinnati is screwed over, but they are not even close to BCS screwing over the G5. 2010 TCU MWC champion - back to back undefeated seasons - ranked #8 total offense - ranked #1 total defense (back to back) - beat 3 Top 25 teams including a 47-7 road win vs #6 Utah. - averaged a 30.4 point margin of victory per game - beat the B10 champion No other team in the history of the sport has stats like that and didn’t play for a national championship. They were literally jumped by Auburn and Oregon in the rankings. Possibly even more egregious? 2010 Boise State - went 35-1 in 3 seasons lost to #12 Nevada by 3 in OT - beat 4 Top 25 teams including the ACC champ - ranked #2 total offense - ranked #2 total defense - averaged a 31.5 margin of victory per game This team finished #7 - they didn’t even make a major bowl. 5 lower ranked teams made one over them including #13 ACC champ Virginia tech (who LOST to BSU) and 8-5 unranked UConn. Think about how insane this is. Boise State went 50-3 in four years.... Thats the all time best class record in the history of the sport. It has never been beaten yet. In 4 years they played just one major bowl and never made the Top 5 in BCS rankings. oh and their 3 losses? By a combined 5 points. Not 5 points a game. They lost by 1 point in 2008, 3 points in OT in 2010 and 1 point in 2011. Literally 3 FGs from going 53-0..... And never once got a shot....
You mean the most corrupt pos illogical ckusterf@ck of a sport in the history of the world?
And boring. No one wants to see the perpetual cycle of Alabama, Ohio State, Oklahoma, and Clemson every fucking year. Will they still be contenders? Of course. Will there be a greater chance for dark horse teams to launch upsets? Absolutely and that's what College football fans love to see. Fuck another rinse/repeat of the same 3 or 4 teams, I wanna see Coastal Carolina upset Alabama or Cincinnati shock Ohio State in a playoff match. That shit is exciting, not this lame ass status quo we've had since the end of the BCS era.
Expanding to 12 doesn’t change the fact that 90% of time one of big 3 (Alabama , Clemson, Ohio State ) is going to the championship.
It doesn't really have to. At least for me, my problem with the current system is half the teams pretty much have no shot at making playoffs. Imo, every team should have a clear way to qualify for the playoffs, regardless of how much of a chance they actually have to win it. If they end up getting blasted by the bigger teams, then it's fair play, because the smaller teams at least get the chance. You won't get UCF 2017 shenanigans if those teams actually get an opportunity to compete. And who knows, they may surprise some people and give us something we'll be talking about for years after.
@Ben Carson lol
Oklahoma they make it 80 percent of the time lol
So what not everyone just cares to watch only those games. Regular season needs to change too. Eff only wanting to watch 5 non con games a year. We need 25-30 games
It also doesn’t change the fact the Oklahoma will find a way to lose
"The Commissioners and Notre Dame".............This is my issue with any type of playoff. Notre Dame needs to be in a Conference even one as weak as ACC is still better then not being in one.
@Brian Oh true but college football itself has to do a better job of making the best teams play one another.
@martini stirred my comment was more for Clemson than anyone
@Brian Notre Dame played plenty of teams. They just are a tier below BAMA, Ohio, and Clemson. As is every other team.
@Donnie Meekins read my lips YOU PLAYED ZERO RANKED TEAMS.....
@Brian but you beat bama but you are weak Brian please there is only one really hard conference and that is the sec and most of the time they are overrated
Can’t wait for the 13th ranked team at the end of every season to say “expand to 16”
Then 64 like it’s college basketball
Correct it will Never end
They technically have nothing to say if they don’t make it in that case.
I wish Georgia Tech was going to Win.
But if does feel good to see your team win a national championship
They might when they expand to 52
